Mark 4:40-41 (NLT)
40 Then he [Jesus] asked them [His disciples], “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
41 The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey him!”

DRAWING NOTES:

TIME OF DAY:
Verse 35 tells us that it was evening.

LIGHTING NOTES:
The storm clouds have largely disappeared at Jesus command. The stars are shining. A lantern on the mast top also throws light onto the scene below.

CHARACTERS PRESENT:
Jesus (standing at the front of the boat) has his arms raised and is asking his disciples with a smile, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
Andrew is at the back of the boat, wearing his usual purple/blue outer robe. Behind him (towards the front of the boat) is James(son of Zebedee & brother of John), with his brother John (son of Zebedee & brother of James) behind him.
Matthew (also called Levi) is sitting on the left of the boat, with his arm over the side. He still looks green from sea sickness!
There are three unnamed disciples also in the boat, as in previous scenes in this story.

RESEARCH/ADDITIONAL NOTES:
The “sea” has quietened down, the clouds have mostly disappeared, and the stars are shining.

The various disciples are looking terrified (by the storm) and amazed (by the power and authority of Jesus). I have made the disciples’ hair windswept… they had just been in a storm, after all! I enjoyed giving them big eyes and open mouths of astonishment and fear/awe.

I tend to show Matthew/Levi looking green from seasickness in these boating scenes on the lake!
