Jesus Is Betrayed and Arrested
After saying these things, Jesus crossed the Kidron Valley with his disciples and entered a grove of olive trees.

DRAWING NOTES:

TIME OF DAY:
Unspecified I Bible text. Night.

LIGHTING NOTES:
I wanted flaming torch light to be the main light source. The second source of light is the cool, blue-white reflected light coming fro the moon.

CHARACTERS PRESENT:
Jesus is leading his disciples into the olive grove (called Gethsemene in other gospels).
Directly behind Jesus is an unnamed discple carrying a flaming torch. Besides him are Simon/Peter and his brother Andrew.
Behind them are two unnamed disciples (one is carrying a torch), with James (son of Zebedee) and his brother John (son of Zebedee) on their right, also sharing a torch.
In the rear we can see James/Cleopas (son of Alphaeus).

RESEARCH/ADDITIONAL NOTES:
This scene occurs at the beginning of the Easter week, which is also called “Passion week” or “Holy week”, the time between Palm Sunday through to Easter Sunday (Resurrection Sunday). Included within Passion Week are Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. The term “Passion Week” refers to Jesus’ willingness to suffer on the cross in order to pay the price for the sins of people.

Smith’s bible dictionary suggests that the garden or orchard, had olive (Olea europaea), fig (Ficus carica) and pomegranates (Punica granatum) in it. Hence I have drawn olive trees behind the characters, and have pomegranate bushes in the foreground.
