Map of the Near and Middle East - simplified geography with XY grid

This is my map of the Middle East, showing the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea (including part of Italy), Greece, Turkey, the Red Sea & North Eastern part of the African continent. It includes the Black Sea, Caspian sea and parts of western Asia. I selected this region as it includes all the lands of the Persian Empire, at it’s maximum geographical extent.

I have carefully researched each city/town to make sure that it was inhabited around the time of the Persian empire, around 500 B.C. at the time of the powerful Persian king Darius I.

Unlike my previous map “Bible Cartoons Map: Near and Middle East with XY grid” I have reduced the number of major river names and have removed all of the mountain range names of the region, in order to simplify my map. I thought it prudent to reduce the amount of labels on the map, in case viewers/customers preferred a simpler version to look at or use.

For reference, the second temple in Jerusalem had recently been completed in 515 B.C.

Note about the XY grid on the map.
The purpose of the XY grid is to make it easier to reference a particular location, using XY co-ordinates.

This positioning system works best for locating small features (such as cities/towns), but is not so useful for larger features, such as long rivers, of mountain ranges. Nevertheless, it is still possible to refer to the North West (NW) quarter of the map, or the North East (NE), South West (SW) or South East (SE) quarters, and then refer to the XY co-ordinates of the name of a feature, in order to help someone to locate these larger features.

For example, in the North West (NW) quarter of the map, at X 3.1/Y 1.7, is the named “Danube River”. The river flows from off the map (at X 0.3/Y0) to the Black Sea, at X4.2/Y1.2.

Notice the figures on the map.
If you look carefully at the map border you will see I have included some little black and white figures, for fun! I have also added two figures in the bottom left hand corner, which represent typical Persian costume of the time.
