Luke 7:41 (ANIV)
[Jesus said] “Two men owed money to a certain money-lender. One owed him five hundred denarii, [1] and the other fifty.”

Greek, 500 denarii. A denarius was the equivalent of a full day’s wage.

DRAWING NOTES:

TIME OF DAY:
Unspecified in the Bible narrative. Daytime.

LIGHTING NOTES:
This scene is fictional (a parable), set inside the money-lenders house. The main source of light is the fire brazier by the money-lender’s chair. There is also sunlight coming in from windows set high in the walls.

CHARACTERS PRESENT:
The money-lender mentioned in Jesus’ parable is the man in golden robes, sitting on a throne-like chair, in the middle of the room. Behind him are two tough-looking guards holding spears. on the left is a scribe, holding a scroll. To the left of him are the two men who owe money: the man in green owes five hundred denarii, the one in purple owes fifty denarii.

RESEARCH/ADDITIONAL NOTES:
This fictional scene (the beginning of Jesus’ parable about two people who owe a lot of money to a money-lender) shows the two men who owe the money-lender the debt of fifty denarii (the equivalent of 50 day’s pay) and the much larger debt of five hundred denarii (1.3 years pay). Both men are holding a piece of paper which records their debt.

I gave the money-lender rich looking clothing, a throne-like chair, and guards/servants, to show that he is wealthy. I imagine that the two guards would be a wise precaution, in case anyone wanted to rob the money-lender, or else do him some violence because of their unpaid debt!
