Isaiah 54:17 (NIV)
17 no weapon forged against you will prevail,
[and you will refute every tongue that accuses you.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
and this is their vindication from me,”
declares the Lord.]
DRAWING NOTES:
TIME OF DAY:
Not specified in the Bible narrative. Day.
LIGHTING NOTES:
Sunlight from above and right illuminates this scene, casting shadows to the left & below figures and objects.
CHARACTERS PRESENT:
A family walking along with their shopping.
A number of daemons with weapons that are melting.
RESEARCH/ADDITIONAL NOTES:
This is my visual interpretation of the beginning of verse 17 in Isaiah chapter 54, which shows the enemies of Christians (the daemons) with weapons raised to harm the humans. A protective bubble can be seen around the family, which is the Lord God’s protection over them. The bubble doesn’t allow the weapons of the daemons to touch the family, indeed, the bubble is melting the weapons!
Although commentators point to this chapter & verse referring to Israel’s blessed future state, I believe we can appropriate God’s promise for ourselves, here and now, and apply it to ourselves, without contradicting the Bible.
“54:15-17. In the millennial kingdom no nation will be allowed to defeat Israel because the Lord has so decreed. Nations rise and fall on the basis of His word. In the past He allowed the destroyer (Babylon) to overcome His people, but this will never again occur. Peace and safety are the heritage of those who trust in the Lord.”

Below is the greyscale image I created before the full colour version. The greyscale version helps me to define the darkest shadows and lightest highlights, and the tonal variations in between. This helps me more easily define the light and shade in the more complicated, full colour version.

54:11-17 CHRISTIAN ETHICS, War and Peace (4.44G)
Peace is God’s promise and vision for His people, initiated by God’s actions and by His people’s obedience to His teaching and will. Peace includes protection from attackers and false accusations, freedom from terror and oppressive forces, tyrants, etc and righteousness evident in all.
54:17 THE CHURCH, Servants (5.14E)
Because God is the Creator (see verse 5) and covenant-maker (see verse 9-10), God’s servants inherit security hope and confidence in their good future. Everyone who commits to becoming God’s servants also commits to becoming a witness for Him (chp 49:1-7). As servants of God, we may be rebuked for wrong-doing; we may be punished, but we will never lose our security, for God promises His help against all our enemies.
