Genesis 2:8-9 (NLT)
8 Then the Lord God planted a garden in Eden in the east, and there he placed the man he had made. 9 The Lord God made all sorts of trees grow up from the ground—trees that were beautiful and that produced delicious fruit. In the middle of the garden he placed the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

RESEARCH/ADDITIONAL NOTES:
This scene shows the garden in Eden that God created, in the middle of the garden stands the tree of life (on the left) and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (on the right). In the foreground is the man, Adam. Beside him are fruit trees/bushes: red pears on the left, blackberries behind him and purple plums on the right.
There is a spring gushing water up from the ground, in the middle of the scene. From it a river is flowing between the two trees. This is drawn in reference to verses 5 and 6, “The Lord God had not yet sent rain to water the earth, and there were no people to cultivate the soil. Instead, springs came up from the ground and watered all the land.”
Here is the scene without the figure in the foreground.

2:9 LAST THINGS, Believer’s Resurrection (4.62D)
The tree of life apparently represents the availability of eternal life for Adam and Eve. From the very beginning, God’s purpose and intention for us was life, not death, however God created us with the freedom to chose death over life for ourselves.
