Numbers 17:10-11 (ANIV)
10 The Lord said to Moses, “Put back Aaron’s staff in front of the Testimony, to be kept as a sign to the rebellious. This will put an end to their grumbling against me, so that they will not die.” 11 Moses did just as the Lord commanded him.

CHARACTERS PRESENT:
Moses carrying Aaron’s staff.
Two priests behind Moses.

RESEARCH/ADDITIONAL NOTES:
This scene shows Moses carrying Aaron’s staff back through the courtyard, towards the Tabernacle itself. I wanted to draw a close-up of the buds & blossom on the staff, which this scene allows for.

This is the first time I have drawn some of the items which were positioned in the courtyard of the Tabernacle. In the foreground there is a dark brown shape, which is the outer covering of the Tabernacle tent. To the left of Moses, there is a bronze laver (or basin, see Exodus 30:18), where the priests ceremonially washed after offering sacrifices & before entering the Tabernacle tent.

Behind Moses is the bronze altar of burnt offering (see Exodus 27:1-8; 38:1-7). According to Mosaic (ie the law given to Moses by God), this was the only place that sacrifices should be offered to God. The altar stood at the eastern end of the courtyard (between the Tabernacle tent & the entrance to the courtyard).

The two priests are holding bronze folks, used to position & move sacrifices around on the top of the altar. By the side of the alter there is another folk & a shovel, the latter used to remove ash from the altar.

Here is the scene showing the courtyard of the Tabernacle, without the figures, basin or altar in the foreground.
