Matthew 2:13 (NLT)
After the wise men were gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up! Flee to Egypt with the child and his mother,” the angel said. “Stay there until I tell you to return, because Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”

Feint light coming in through a window high up in the wall illuminates this scene.

From left to right, In the bed: Joseph & Mary
From left to right In the dream “bubble”, an angel, two soldiers, holding three infant boys from Bethlehem. King Herod, holding a sword.

This scene depicts Joseph’s dream of an angel warning him to flee to Egypt. The angel is looking down at Joseph & holding up a map of Israel & the Mediterranean sea, indicating the region of Egypt where Joseph is to take Mary & Jesus too. The threat to Jesus is represented by Herod & the two soldiers in the dream “bubble”. The two soldiers have grabbed some infant boys from the town of Bethlehem & are taking them to King Herod, who is holding a blood stained sword, indicating his intention to kill all the boys two years old & under (see Matthew 2:16-18).

Two oil lamps (extinguished) & an earthenware cup are on the night stand & chest of drawers by the double bed occupied by the sleeping Joseph & Mary.
