Pearl picture

Posted 12 Oct 2010

I’ve just finished drawing, colouring & uploading the 141st cartoon on to this website. The scene is taken from Matthew’s Gospel, chapter 13, & verses 45-46. Jesus is telling a crowd about the Kingdom of Heaven & using parables & metaphors to tell them what it is like. In this particular story, he likens the Kingdom of Heaven to a pearl of grate value. When I read the words “pearl of grate value,” in the New Living Translation of the Bible, my imagination immediately provided the picture you see, of a ludicrously large pearl, & a rather smug looking pearl merchant!
Based on my previous blog (08/10/2010) & the self-assessment of using too much of the colour blue in many of my cartoons, I have limited it use in this one! I have also kept the cartoon deliberately lighter & brighter, rather than making it my usual dark scene.
I’m pleased with the way the surface of the pearl reflects the light, it looks quite realistic.
