I’ve been asked to draw the 4 riders of the Apocalypse, from Revelation chapter 6, by a lady in the USA. I have wanted to draw these riders for some time, but haven’t got round to it, but now at last I can get on with them!

The 4 scenes above are my rough pencil sketches, which have been approved by the American lady, so now I can proceed to finished, full colour artwork.

The pictures below are the completed, full colour scenes. I produced the same scene in 2 or 3 different versions, one with the 7 seals scroll in the bottom left hand corner, and the other without it present, and the third is the one wanted by the US lady, if different from the first 2 versions.

I was very pleased with the way the first rider came out. The snow was new for me… I usually draw Bible scenes in wilderness and desert, so snow is a novelty! It was great to draw this large horse at full gallop too.

This is the 3rd version of this scene, with a different background, as requested by the US lady who commissioned these “Riders of the Apocalypse” scenes. In this version of the White rider she wanted burning buildings in the background, with some tumbling down, and bowing, worshipping people in the foreground.

I decided to add a lava field to the Red rider scene, to keep with the red theme. The US lady wants a river of blood drawing in her version.

This is the 3rd version of this scene, with a different background, as requested by the US lady who commissioned these “Riders of the Apocalypse” scenes. In this version of the Red rider she wanted broken buildings and debris/rubble, and a river of blood, with blood on the rider’s sword! A little macabre for my taste, but “the customer is always right!”

The US lady who commissioned this scene wanted thin, plague victim people in the scene. They were quite harrowing to draw.
