Acts 27:27-29 (ANIV)
27 On the fourteenth night we were still being driven across the Adriatic [1] Sea, when about midnight the sailors sensed they were approaching land. 28 They took soundings and found that the water was one hundred and twenty feet [2] deep. A short time later they took soundings again and found it was ninety feet [3] deep. 29 Fearing that we would be dashed against the rocks, they dropped four anchors from the stern and prayed for daylight.

DRAWING NOTES:

TIME OF DAY:
Unspecified in the Bible narrative. It could be day or night, as the sun is obscured by the storm clouds, so I have set this scene in the day time.

LIGHTING NOTES:
The hurricane is blotting out the sun, so only vague sunshine is illuminating this scene. The lightning also adds some light.

CHARACTERS PRESENT:
Various sailors on the ship.

RESEARCH/ADDITIONAL NOTES:
This picture shows some of the sailors (having sensed land nearby) throwing a weighted line into the sea. The lead weight would have sunk to the sea bed and then the sailors would have known how deep or shallow the sea was that they were travelling through.

Notice in verse 30 that the Bible tells us the sailors prayed for daylight. In the most difficult, dangerous and stressful situations we find ourselves in, people often turn to prayer!
