Daniel 03 - Four in the furnace cartoon

Posted 01 Feb 2010

Here’s my latest cartoon, which follows on in theme mere seconds from the previous one: Daniel 03 The Fiery Furnace. Here we see King Nebuchadnezzar having just dashed down the stone stairs from the top of the furnace to it’s base, were 2 large doors provide access to the interior. he has ordered 2 workers or soldiers to open the doors, & he is peering inside. He sees four people walking around inside, not just the 3 Hebrew men he had thrown in – what a surprise that must have been to him! Even more surprising was the fact that the flames hadn’t harmed the men at all. If that’s not a miracle I don’t know what is!

A friend of mine likes to remind me that when the 3 Hebrew men came out of the heat of the fiery furnace, all that had been burnt away were their bonds. She says that in the same way, if we have been bound by something in our lives (a sin, for instance) then sometimes the Lord allows us to face the fiery furnace of a difficult situation, but like the 3 Hebrew men in this cartoon, we are not burned ourselves, but that which bound us can be burned away. Perhaps that is why God sometimes allows us to go through hard or painful experiences. It is an interesting thought.

Here are the usual 3 versions of the cartoon: the greyscale, the full colour & a partial / close-up view to show you some of the details:
